AE Reconciliation and JusticeAE Reconciliation and Justice

The need for reconciliation today is as great as it has ever been. Justice, too, extends beyond legislation to the social and economic which is a major aspect of AE’s work and has been in the area of reconciliation, here AE is recognised as a non-denominational and non-racial organisation well able to negotiate peace between groups in conflict.

AE is committed to evangelising the cities of Africa. In South Africa, AE soon realised that we could not preach the Gospel without concern for the divisions within our society under the apartheid system. Jesus prayed for unity in the Church. Today, AE is in a unique and strategic position in Africa to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through all strata of society and to challenge leaders to lead lives under God. Recognition, favour and co-operation from a wide spectrum of African churches and even high-ranking African government leaders greatly benefit AE in carrying out its calling.

This credibility has enabled AE to increasingly minister Christ’s love effectively within politically sensitive and at times volatile environments. Not only is healing and forgiveness ministered to local communities, but reconciliation between the leaders of rival factions often occurs as a result of special ministry weekends. AE is seen as the "honest broker" by rival political groups. Many heads of state, including Nelson Mandela, have openly recognised AE’s unique role in these areas.

AE has always been active in reconciliation initiatives throughout Africa. In South Africa our team has a track record of significant reconciliation achievements such as the groundbreaking Congress on Mission and Evangelism in 1973 with Billy Graham, the South African Christian Leadership Assembly and many others, the most significant being the Jesus Peace Rally that gathered 20 000 Christians to pray, ushering in peaceful elections in 1994. Highly effective reconciliation programmes, particularly among youth.

"That they all may be one…so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as we are one. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent me and have loved them even as You have loved Me." - John 17:21-23
